Are you one of these users that wants to access Lotus Notes from everywhere? Don't like the browser interface to your Notes Apps and would much rather use a Notes client when on the road. End up lugging around your Laptop when on holidays so you can still access Notes?

Well here is a great innovation from IBM with Lotus Notes 7.0.2. Notes on a USB memory stick install . With Notes installed onto your USB memory stick you can just plug it into a computer and wammo you have Notes. When you leave that machine you take everything with you.

This would be great when travelling, in lets say Phuket Thailand. Simply get into an internet cafe at 1 Baht per minute (28 Bahts is about $1AUD), plug in your USB memory stick and off you go.

Or maybe you are travelling thru an airport, quick jump on that PC, plug in the USB stick, and off you go. Full Notes access.

This is a great innovation from IBM and I can see many of our clients making great use of it.

would I be able to use this same technique to install a copy of Notes 7 on my desktop and then just copy it to my tablet and laptop, rather than installing it? I have a collection of apps that I currently "install" that way, hoping that I can add Notes to that list.

Not sure Steve. It is an interesting question. I guess it seems possible depending on how it all works. If you were able to emulate the USB drive then maybe it might work. I will definately be playing with this as soon as I have a moment so I will let you know.

The NOMAD install is different from the standard Notes one and you implement some alternate flags on the setup portion.

While you can always put nsf files on a USB key and access them, the part of having a registry independent code set on the USB is a little different. It installs as an autolaunch program (if you wish) onto the key leaving nothing on the desktop.

Copying the install from the machine won't work due to ini settings and other parts not fully supported. While you can make it work, this one takes no effort.

I've had success copying notes off a stick to different machines - you have to manually run the bits that normally get autorun to set everything up, but once that's done once it works forever. I have not attempted any sort of upgrade, however, and suspect that would be more problematic.
